Alitalia-ITA transition begins

Italian carrier replacement process began on Wednesday with the opening of ticket sales on the new airline

ITA – Italia Trasporto Aereo – began selling tickets for its first flights on Wednesday, when Alitalia announced that it would no longer accept reservations after October 15th.

That’s when the new airline created to replace the troubled predecessor will begin flying in Italy. For this reason, a new ITA website was launched this week, still provisionally, where it is possible to purchase tickets using the same tool as Alitalia itself.

In this first stage, ITA will have 52 aircraft, most coming from Alitalia’s fleet. The carrier will give priority to domestic flights, with 20 destinations in the country, in addition to another 20 in Europe and some nearby countries such as Israel and Egypt.

Operations will be concentrated at the airports in Rome and Linate (Milan). ITA will fly to Heathrow in London and Orly and Charles de Gaulle in Paris.

Long-haul routes, on the other hand, will be concentrated in thehe United States. The cities of New York, Miami and Boston will already be served at the beginning of the services. The exception will be Tokyo, where the airline will fly to Haneda airport.

In March 2022, however, ITA intends to expand international destinations. Flights are planned to Buenos Aires (Argentina), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Washington and Los Angeles, in the USA.

Other destinations planned for the first quarter of 2022 are Florence Malaga, Luxembourg, Marseille, Stuttgart and Valencia. In August it will be Sofia and Belgrade’s turn.

In addition to these cities, the ITA should announce new routes that appear in the website’s flight search engine. The new airline recently received its AOC from Italy’s civil aviation authority.
